FAQs

How much will this cost?
Our Daily Paint Sessions have a studio fee of $10 per person which books you a seat. Everyone coming along, even if not painting, will need to book and pay $10 for a seat. You are welcome to paint more than one piece. Prices range from $15 to $80. The cost includes painting, glazing, firing and getting it ready for collection.

Being creative/ art/painting isn’t my thing, can I still do this?
This is the perfect activity for any skill level. Whether you are a beginner and it’s not your forte, to a seasoned pottery painter – Pears is the place for you.

When will my pottery be ready?
Please allow a 14 – 21 day turnaround for finished pieces. During peak periods (eg. school holidays), this turnaround may be longer but we will inform you on the day what the timeframe will be. Once your piece is ready for collection, you will receive text message.

How long do you hold onto pottery once messaged?

Due to limited storage we can only hold onto your pottery for approximately 2 months (maybe a bit longer if we can). If you are going away or need longer please let us know.

How will I know my pottery is ready?
As soon as your pottery is ready for collection, we will send an sms to the mobile number you provided us. If you haven’t received a text yet, your piece is not ready. However, if the timeframe we informed you of has passed, then please give us a call as we may have incorrect details.

When can I collect my pottery?
You can collect your pottery during our studio open hours.

Why does it take so long?
Essentially, your piece goes through 2 drying stages. The first drying stage is after you’ve finished it, we pop it out the back to completely dry, this may take a few days. The second stage is after we have glazed it. Each piece needs to be completely dry prior to going into the kiln.
The drying process takes longer in the cooler months. Once in the kiln, it takes 24 hours to heat up and cool down.

What happens if I can’t finish my piece in one sitting?
No problem at all! We will put your unfinished item in a bag for you to take home. You book in another Daily Paint Session ($10) when you are ready to complete painting your piece and bring it in with you. We expect you also paint another item during our peak times (weekends, Friday Night Paints, school holidays).

What age does this suit?
This style of pottery painting is suitable for all ages and abilities, particularly 4 years and up.

Do you have events that are child free?
Our Friday late night paints are specifically adults only.

Can I drop the kids off and come back to pick them up later?
We love having kids in the studio, but we ask that a parent or guardian remain with them if they are under the age of 16, or unable to complete the activity independently.

Do non painters need to book spot?
Yes, they will need a seat (no standing room) and will also need to pay $10 for the spot. We encourage you also join in the fun and paint!

Is your paint safe?
Yes, our underglaze paints are non toxic and easy to wash out of clothes. Once glazed and fired, your piece will be food safe.

Will we get our own table?
Depending on the bookings for the day and how the studio will be set up to accommodate everyone, you may get your own table or you may be sharing with other painters. If you have booked separately but are part of the same group, please let us know beforehand so we can place you on the same table if possible.

Is your studio pram friendly?
Yes, it is. If you give us notice it helps us put you at a table with more accessibility.

Is your studio wheelchair friendly?
Inside our studio is wheelchair friendly. There is a small step up into the studio at the door, however we have a ramp available so please just let us know and they can set it up for you.

Unfortunately the building’s shared toilet facilities are not wheelchair accessible.

Do you have parking?
There is free street parking available on Coogee Street, as well as in the surrounding area and 3 hours free parking at the Coogee St Carpark.

Do you have toilets?
Yes, we do. Our toilets are located to the side of the building, a short distance from our door. Due to the thoroughfare width where the toilets are located, and a significant step, unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible.

Can I host an event at your studio?
Yes, definitely! Head to our Parties & Events page for more info!

Can I BYO food & drink?
Yes, feel free to bring along something to eat while you paint. Or pop to one of the local coffee shops to grab a takeaway. We recommend avoiding anything greasy otherwise there is a risk of transfer to your piece which may create an imperfection during the glazing and firing process. For events and Friday Night Paint sessions, definitely! This also includes alcohol. Please note that we do not provide any cutlery or crockery, nor do we provide any catering. We do have water, wine and champagne glasses, as well as a small bar fridge. Please note that for non-exclusive events, a separate table for food & drink is not included.

Can we bring decorations?
Yes, decorations for exclusive events are very welcomed!
For non exclusive parties during our normal hours, please be considerate of others that will be in the studio at the same time.

Do you have gift vouchers?
Yes, we do! We offer eGift cards which you can purchase online as well as physical gift cards available at the studio.

Do you do take home kits?
Not at the moment!

I want to get my child’s hand/foot prints done, can I do that here?
Yes, for sure! We are happy to assist with this and we have various pieces that work perfectly for prints. Bigger kid hands and feet are easy (1y+) but for the littlies, especially babies, we recommended that they are asleep.
Please note, that we do not offer any painting service. Once the prints have been done, it’s time to put your own personal touch to this precious piece.

Terms & Conditions

Ceramic is made from an organic material and occasionally some irregularities do surface during the firing process. This can result in a crack, chip or irregularity in the glaze.

We will offer a refund or voucher for any ceramic damaged or found faulty during firing. We don’t offer refunds for irregularities in glazing.

There may be minor colour variations on pieces according to how they have been painted. Minor imperfections are a result of the hand-painted nature of the pottery, and the natural state of the clay.

We hold no responsibility for items once collected. All pottery is fragile and may chip or break if misused. It is advised not to place pottery items in a dishwasher or microwave and we recommend hand wash only.

A studio fee $10 will be charged per person attending our Daily Paint Sessions. This is irrespective of the number of items painted or the type of item. The studio fee covers the cost of the paints, glaze and firing of your ceramic.

Any breakages will incur a breakage fee. Our breakage fee is dependent on the item(s).

Our cancellation policy for Friday Night Paints is that the $15 upfront studio booking fee is fully refunded if cancelled prior to 48 hours (2 days) of the evening booked. If cancelled within 48 hours (2 days) monies paid will be forfeited.

Our cancellation policy for private function bookings where the studio hire fee is paid upfront to secure the booking is non refundable if the booking is cancelled.  It is also not transferrable to another date.

Friday Night Paint sessions are for adults only – 18 years and over.

Items that are not collected within 2 months of painting date will be disposed of. We may send reminder messages. If you haven’t heard from us within 21 days of your painting date, please get in touch as we may have incorrect details.
